OWL presentation at April social meeting

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 10. We are very fortunate to have a member of OWL, Orphaned WildLife, give us a presentation on Raptors. Owl is committed to educating the public on the conservation and importance of raptors.

OWL’s primary mission is to rehabilitate and release sick, injured, or orphaned raptors back into the wild. However, there are some cases where a raptor suffers a permanent injury which makes them unable to survive in the wild and they adjust well to human contact. These birds are given another chance to help their species by becoming Educational Ambassadors. The Educator will bring 1 owl and 1 hawk/falcon/turkey vulture, as well as providing a presentation on raptors and how we can help.

Doors open at 7pm, meeting starts at 7:30. Non-members welcome.

Harmsworth Hall,7170 232nd Street, Langley BC. (Across the street from the Chevron/White Spot immediately south of Hwy 1)

November Social presents Susan Conrad

Put any human in a tiny vessel and send them up a perilous 1,200-mile stretch of the Inside Passage of British Columbia and SE Alaska—and they are bound to have stories! Susan Conrad’s stories are not just filled with intrigue and adventure, but they have heart, inspiration, acceptance and gratitude. Susan will share her 2010 solo 1,200-mile sea kayak expedition up the Inside Passage from Anacortes to Juneau. Relive the trip with Susan as she shares experiences of paddling marathon distances for days on end, struggling to keep an open mind and interacting with the sea on its terms, forging friendships with amazing people in remote locations, pretending not to be intimidated by 700 pound grizzly bears and 40 ton whales, and living her dream.

For the November social meeting, our guest speaker will be Susan Conrad, an amazing paddler, speaker and author who is going to present on her first journey of kayaking from Anacortes to Juneau.

Zoom, Wednesday, November 9, 7:00pm

Non-members are welcome. Contact web@pikakayak.com for invitation.

September Social at Hayward Lake

Our September 2022 meeting will be a picnic at Hayward Lake on Saturday, September 10th so that we can have an in-person meeting in the great outdoors. Much better than cramming ourselves into a hall with the COVID situation continuing to be what it is.

As it does include a paddle around the lake, please respond to president@pikakayak.com with your details for the float plan before Sunday, September 4th.

We will all be bringing our own food and drink. There will be someone to watch all our coolers at the tables while the rest of us paddle.

On the water: 10:00am. Lunch: 12:30pm

Non-members are welcome to join us for the picnic but only PIKA members can participate in the paddle.
