A presentation by PIKA member Roy Jantzen based on his book:
Wildlife Weekends in Southern British Columbia
Roy presents stories from his research speaking with wildlife researchers from around southwestern BC, focusing on stories and ecological ideas related to ocean ecosystems and other topics of interest to kayakers.
All locations are within six hours travel from Vancouver and span an array of species.
Do you know about the Whale Trail or the status of the only remaining commercial Pacific Herring run in BC?
Whatever your wildlife interests, the presentation both educates and appeals wildly!
Meeting is hybrid: in-person and by Zoom.
Non-members are welcome.
February 12 at Harmsworth Hall; doors open at 7pm.
Marina came across a news article about salmon reaching the Superstore parking lot in East Vancouver, just a few blocks from her home. After biking down there, she was stunned to see fully mature Chum in a barely visible stream, next to Renfrew Skytrain station. A couple of days later, there was another article saying a milky effluent was in the waterway and poisoning the fish. “The Return” is a short film whose main goal is to encourage people to discover their own backyard, particularly in the midst of a huge city. The situation is complex but the rewards of care and effort are everlasting.
Meeting is January 8 at Harmsworth Hall 7:00pm.
Non-members are welcome.
Meeting will also be available by Zoom.
Our Christmas party is on Wednesday December 11 at Harmsworth Hall.

Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 10. We are very fortunate to have a member of OWL, Orphaned WildLife, give us a presentation on Raptors. Owl is committed to educating the public on the conservation and importance of raptors.
OWL’s primary mission is to rehabilitate and release sick, injured, or orphaned raptors back into the wild. However, there are some cases where a raptor suffers a permanent injury which makes them unable to survive in the wild and they adjust well to human contact. These birds are given another chance to help their species by becoming Educational Ambassadors. The Educator will bring 1 owl and 1 hawk/falcon/turkey vulture, as well as providing a presentation on raptors and how we can help.
Doors open at 7pm, meeting starts at 7:30. Non-members welcome.
